Birthday Boy!

Well, we didn't quite make it to church since Mama had to go to the clinic (yay, post-pregnancy infection), but it was a special day for a 3 year old birthday boy!


Daddy made the tree out front "rain" leaves on him before Grandma picked all the dead ones off. It looks much nicer now!

He got to help Daddy build a compost bin out of an old pallet that the former owners so nicely left behind...

Somebody LOVES balloons!

Every time we go to the grocery store we go by the bakery to get a cookie. And we always have to stop and look at his "friends" on the cakes. So awhile back I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and of course the Mater and McQueen cake it was!

Definitely got the blowing out candles part down...

Love this cake!

I'm a Car-nivore!

Time for presents...

This is one of the Discovery Toys I saved for him, but I didn't hide it very well and he's been begging to play with it for months. Just this week he pointed to it up on the shelf in the closet and asked to play with it...

I'd say for a toy that says "ages 4+" he's got it pretty well figured out!

Three

Today is your birthday, my little man! Although you don't look so little anymore compared to baby Noah (or even most kids your age!). 40 pounds and 40 inches tall is one big boy!

3 years ago (plus a few days)

You have so much personality and you really love people. Occasionally that makes life difficult for Mama when she has things to get done, but most of the time I love being able to have conversations with you! You still say "mac 'n oner cheese" and "hang me up" for pick me up, but otherwise speak very clearly and with lots of reason! You are so observant about everything around us and very curious. "Why" is now one of your favorite words... We still need to work on listening for the answer though!

I love listening to you talk to your buddies (stuffed animals) and little cars. You make up things for them to do and they have conversations with each other that make me laugh!
With your imagination though you are sometimes afraid of things you don't quite understand. You don't like loud noises (except for trains) and being in the dark.

You love books like Peter Pan and The Jungle Book.

Your memory is amazing and you quote randomly from the Cars movie or anything that you have recently seen or heard. You even remembered your swimming teacher's name from last summer when we were having a conversation about swimming this week!

And in terms of water, you have recently decided that laying back in the bathtub with your ears underwater is fun. There are all kinds of cool noises under water! Also, taking a shower is very cool when before you hated standing under the water.

And finally, you have discovered your pockets are good for carrying treasures... I now have to check them before I do the laundry or I find little shells from our collection or your little tiny cars in the bottom of the washer!

I'm so proud of you, son! How you really do love people and are caring about those around you. I hope you always have a soft heart towards people!

One Week

Today I finally got around to taking some pictures of Noah with the bunny... the outfit he's wearing was what we brought him home in and it seems like he's about to outgrow it already!

Yesterday we had a midwife appointment and he was almost back up to his birth weight already at 8 pounds 7 ounces. So apparently he's getting enough to eat!

He's much more of a spit-up baby than I remember Cory being, especially if he doesn't get all his burps out. And this kid can burp! It's almost scary, sometimes he sounds like a teenager!

I think we're finally getting onto some sort of schedule (knock on wood) of eating every 3 1/2 to 4 hours and sleeping most of the time in between. Hooray for that!

And hooray for spring break starting today so Brian can be home and help take care of Cory so I can sleep during the day! We're slowly getting used to having 4 in the house...

I had great intentions of reading this book... but someone made an early appearance so who knows when I'll have time to read again! Not like having Cory asleep on my chest and reading many books in his first few weeks!

Sur-real-ity

We've been a little busy this week...

Noah Eugene

was born on St. Patrick's Day at 10:10 pm

after only 2 hours at the birthing center
and being 2 1/2 weeks "early"

He weighed 8lbs, 8oz
and was 20 1/4 inches long

Cory met his new brother on Thursday evening

A more excited boy I haven't seen!

He'll make a great big brother...

although he's not sure about the crying!

We have an almost identical picture of Cory with Papa
and here is about the only picture where I think they look alike

"Noah" had a present for Cory, a giant stuffed Golden Retriever which Cory promptly named Cayenne and proceeded to have "lick" everyone just like the real Cayenne does! (my parent's dog)

We had just gotten out the baby clothes and started sorting them on Tuesday night... so I did some laundry at 4am after my water broke and I was waiting for the midwife to call me back!
It was a pretty slow day and the labor didn't actually start getting hard until about 7pm, but then it was fast and furious!
We came home at 1:30am and since I wasn't expecting this for another 2 weeks it's hard to believe he's here already!
Now for the "reality check" when Cory comes home to stay tomorrow!

A Day in the Life

Sorry for the lack of posting lately... but I think I have a good excuse! 3 weeks left and I realized I have way too much to do and not enough energy to get even half of it done...

So here's a day in Cory's life...

Someone loves to hide under the blankets and Brian caught this one last night... what it did to his hair!

Finally, a dinner he can help make (waffles).

Stirring is serious business!

And if you'll notice, at not quite 3 he doesn't even need a chair, just a stool to reach the counter and help!

He always wants to help me sweep so when I'm done I let him. Too bad he doesn't have magic sweeping powers to get rid of the ants that have shown up the last 2 days... ew! At least we've figured out that the broom goes on the floor, not the counters or anywhere else!


Sometimes he wants me to take his picture, other times he doesn't. This time he wanted me to take a picture of his funny face! I think this is the go-to face now (see first picture).


And finally, a little boy who is obsessed with trains (and all things that go) can see them from his bedroom window!


A few more randoms:

Cory came up with this all on his own while he was snuggling and rocking his bibi (blankie) he called it his "bibi baby".

After hiding under his covers and me "finding him" he told me to go hide under my covers and then went "looking" for me all over the house just like I look for him. He counted to 6 and then went looking... "no Mama in the toilet!" "no Mama in the bathtub" "no Mama in the sink" or the computer room, or his drawers, or under his blankets. Finally he "found" me under my covers. I was cracking up!

The other day we were watching this video (very cool, you should check it out) and I walked away for a minute since Cory wanted to watch it like 4 times. When I came back he had clicked on something that opened a new window with the same video playing in a bigger screen. Apparently it had finished and he wanted to watch it again and figured out how to make it go... oy!

Count Your Kids!

So, have you heard about the census coming up this month? Did you know it's only taken once every 10 years?

You should be receiving a census form by the end of March and guess what? It's super important that you fill it out! Not only for you, but for your kids sake.

Want to know why?

The US Government uses the number of kids counted on the census to determine where federal dollars go for many of your local programs. If your kids aren't counted then your state and city/county won't get money for your kid for things like Education Grants and Children's Health Insurance - among many other programs.

As a (stay-home) teacher with a husband who's a teacher I know that money comes in to our schools depending on the number of kids who live in the school district boundary. Direct funding for your school might not depend on census numbers, but many of the special programs and grants do use these numbers!

Children can't fill out their own forms and in the last census it was estimated that 1 million children under 10 went uncounted. Don't let your kid be one of these!

Fill out your census form and return it as soon as you can... so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle and neither do your kids!

Weekend Exhaustion

My (very fabulous) in-laws came up last weekend to see our new house. I swear they brought the crazy rain that we had on Friday with them. It poured for 24 hours straight and has been nice and sunny every other day. Weird!

Anyway, Saturday was a baby shower that some friends put on for me so my mother-in-law got to come to this one! Very fun!

Not that I need a lot of stuff for this guy since he's the same season as Cory and we kept pretty much everything. But it will be nice to have a few new outfits just for him and of course we got diapers so they will come in handy for the first month or two until I'm ready to use my cloth ones!

My friend Leana did the shower and she had her mother-in-law Suzy help with the food since Suzy is seriously the hostess with the mostest when it comes to parties! I only know her through Leana, but she is so sweet! She created the diaper cake, did the lunch, and brought a little gift for Cory so he wouldn't feel left out!

Saturday night we went back to church for a Ken Davis show. I had never heard of him, but was signed up to work at the Compassion table. Awesomely funny! Afterwards we went out for a late dinner at Applebee's.

Cory then woke us up at 5am because he had peed in his bed... unfortunately the baby sitter hadn't managed to get him to go to the bathroom before he went to bed and this is usually what happens, the diaper doesn't hold it all. Also unfortunately the waterproof pad on his bed had slid down so the mattress got soaked. Lovely. Poor kid got to sleep on the floor the rest of the night!

Sunday was back to church for the 3rd time in 24 hours... and afterwards it was a quiet afternoon for the girls while Brian and his dad worked on cutting all our doors off with his Grandpa's tools they brought up.

They were all rubbing on the carpet. Cory was quite concerned when told his door was being cut off! Now I just have to get re-used to the fact that the doors open and close without major resistance against the carpet!


Sunday night we again went out to a yummy dinner for Annika's birthday. You can't really tell, but the place was packed and for 8 people the only thing they had was a high table with bar style chairs. Cory looked so cute just sitting there like a grown up, but barely over the table!

Of course, I might be a little bit biased...

They brought out this huge piece of chocolate mousse cake for Annika with tons of ice cream. We passed it around and then Brian ordered another piece of the cake for us it was so good!

The in-laws left Monday morning and Cory was quite sad to see them go until we told him they would be coming back in just a few weeks when Baby Brother is born!

He definitely wanted all my attention all day though. Here he's putting some coins into "his" new piggy bank. This was one of the shower games, but since I'd just been looking at these at Target last week I decided that he could have it and he loves it! He doesn't really get the concept of money yet, it's more of a toy.

The puppy book behind him was another adorable gift from the shower!

Now do you see why I said I was exhausted in my 35 weeks post? :) Four weeks to go and a million things left to do...

My Review:
I have enjoyed Veggie Tales as long as they've been out. I watched this with my little guy last week and he loved it. He was a bit scared at one part, but he's not quite three and it wasn't bad.

Probably at his age the message of listening to your parents went over his head a bit, but the timing couldn't have been better because that's exactly what we've been struggling with. The movie doesn't leave out that the reason you should listen to your parents is because they LOVE you!

And of course there is the traditional Veggie Tales humor that keeps parents entertained while they watch along with their kids!

35 Weeks

It seems unreal that I basically have a month left. I'm not sure I'm ready for this! I have been so focused on moving and unpacking and cleaning that other than being slower than normal and more uncomfortable I'm not really thinking about being pregnant. Uh oh!

This picture was taken on Saturday before an insanely packed weekend. Probably a good thing it wasn't taken today as I'm all puffy with water weight. My midwife appointment said I'd gained 8 pounds in 2 weeks, but I'm pretty sure according to my home scale that 6 of that was this week alone. It better be water or I'm in trouble! My ankles are all swelled up too.

I don't have any pictures to compare when I was pregnant with Cory, but I might be bigger now than I was with him. At least I don't remember it being this hard to shave my legs even at the end! And it feels like my stomach is always stretching if I'm not in just a couple of positions.

I'm glad it's spring so I can have the windows open. My thermostat has gone up about 10 degrees I think, to the point that I can be hot when Brian is cold. That's a switch!

I'll hopefully post one more picture at 39 weeks... if we make it that far!
