Kid quotes

Joy likes to go to the "I-berry" to get books
Hope calls lipstick "sticky lips"

Hope singing the Patty Cake song says "and throw it in the oven with baby and me". Oops!

Noah: I like one of the firstondary colors.
Me: Oh, you mean primary?
Noah: Yes, red.

We have a picture book of our cousins from South Africa and on the first page they say Sanibonani, which is Hello, I think in a Swazi dialect.  Hope likes to go around saying it.  It's a fun word!

Having steak for dinner.  You can tell this is not a common occurrence around here because Joy kept asking what we were having and calling it chicken.  When I finally convinced her it was beef she said, "I like this beaver, Mommy!" and could not be convinced to pronounce it "beef".

According to Joy when we go swimming we wear "lice jackets". *shudder*

Also while swimming Cory told me he'd learned how to do a "hamspring".

Kid Quotes

One of the girls wailing about her shoes, "They're all brinkled!"

Talking about how much Cory had grown Noah says, "We need to put bricks on your head!"

When Joy smells something she wants to know what it is she says "What's that in my nose?"

In an attempt to delay bedtime my oldest child comes out of his room, "Mom, one of my nostrils feels like it's plugged."  Answer: you have a cold child, go blow your nose!

Hope: We gonna go to Africa!
Me: No, not right now.
Hope: Okay, after nap time!

Hope calls yesterday "last morning"

Noah at dinner, we were talking about how Pluto was no longer a planet and he says, "It lost it's job!"

Joy: Don't step in the puddle Mom!  It's for ducks!

Kid Quotes

Noah has had a couple of good quotes as well as the sisters so I'm including them all.

When Hope sneezes she says "Bless Me"

Noah got a piece of pineapple down his sleeve while eating pizza the other night.  When Brian asked how it got in there he said "a catapult".  Which devolved into a bunch of random ways it got in there.

Noah playing a video game and doing well, Brian says, "You're cleaning up!" and Noah goes, "I'm cleaning the bathroom!"

The girls sing a great mix of songs, "The ants go marching down to the ground, to get out of the rainbow, boom boom boom" and "The ants go marching, won't you ride along with me?" (Mr. Rogers)

When we wash our hair we use "condition-on-er"

If you are wearing a skirt or dress that makes you a princess, because you can twirl.  If not, you are not a princess according to Joy.

Noahisms...

Driving in the car... "You're excellent, Mom.  You do excellent things."  Where does he come up with this stuff?

"I miss Great Grandpa.  I didn't get a chance to say good-bye."  Totally made me cry.

"So one time, we can take a fruit fly to Grandma and Grandpa's house and throw it in the pool and it will drown." (yeah, we had a fruit fly problem for awhile)

"I had a dream that Mickey Mouse was changing my diaper." (we still do diapers, but only at night - and we're working on that!)

"Mom, how did baby sisters get out of your tummy?" (oh dear!)

"I don't like to eat, but you have to eat or else you'll die."  Says the child who only seems to really like a few things anymore.

Whenever I try to tell him he's being silly he responds with "No, I'm true!" instead of I'm serious!  Cracks me up every time!
And when something is really silly he says it's "so all-arious" leaving off the "h" sound!

Bubble boy...

We got a new Lego fire chief car because he's had a dry diaper for a week straight (that was the "bribe" and it's going on close to a month now!) and it finally came today.  The age listed on the box was 5-12 and he's 3 1/2.  I'm happy to say that with a very few questions he put the whole thing together himself!

Boy Quotes #14

Cory: "The democratics are going up, we have to keep our windows safe.  That's what it means to the planes - the bombs are going up and they have to keep their windows safe."  (I think someone was listening to the election politics and is crossing it with little boy play...)

Noah: "Mom, I was roaring at the birdies, but they're still going "tweet, tweet, tweet" (said in a little boy voice)
He wanted the birds in the bushes outside to fly away, but apparently they are immune to Noah monsters anymore...

Cool monsters: Halloween costumes; not just for Halloween anymore!

Boy Quotes #13

Noah in the car: "You lucky Mom, because you saw the dam".

Cory: Mom, what are man plates for?  You mean manhole covers?

Time is relative for Noah and everything past, present, or future occurs "dis afternoon".

After visiting some friends on our evacuation that have lots of Lego Star Wars things it has become an obsession in our house.  Every thing created with Legos is a light saber and Noah likes to go around shooting the "Stroopers" - otherwise known as Storm Troopers.  And every time he says it it reminds me of my totally over the top high school history teacher named Mr. Stroup!

Boy Quotes #12

One morning Cory slept in so Noah was watching cartoons when he got up and Cory was complaining that he didn't get to pick.  So we told him that he slept in and it was okay, he would get to pick the next day.  Then Noah pipes up...
"I no slept in, I slept out!"

We're driving around somewhere and Cory asked who made that hill.  I said, "God made the hills".  Noah says, "I made this hill too, with God!"

Happy Labor Day!  Hope you're enjoying it with family and friends!

Boy Quotes #11

Cory has been gone for 2 days and Noah gets up from his nap and says, "I need Bru tum home to me, I miss him".  So sweet!

After watching Leap Frog a few times this is how Noah sings the alphabet:
ABC - EFCheese - HIJK Elmo Peas - QRS - QRS - WXY and Z
and then he yells the rest of it - Now I know my ABC's, next time won't you sing with me!

We had a pretty big thunder storm right over our house at bedtime one night and Noah was scared.  So I picked him up and we watched out their window for a little while and talked about it.  He told me "I no like YakinaQueen in the clouds" (he thought Lightning McQueen was making the lightning!)

Cory: What is that?
Me: It's Blue Cheese.
Cory: What is Glue Cheese?

Boy Quotes #10

At my parent's house:
"Cory, are you ready for a nap?"
"No, I'm ready to Rock and Roll" (said with attitude and body moves for emphasis)

Noah got a piece of cheese and Cory asked for some:
"Nana, can I have a piece of cheese..........................please?"
By which time, Nana had already gone back into the kitchen and didn't hear the please so she says,
"What's the magic word?"
Cory to me: "But I already said it"
I replied that I didn't think Nana heard him.
He says again, "But I already said it".
Nana comes out and he says to her, "I already said it".
She replies that it's nice to hear more than once.
He finally acquiesces and says,
"Nana, may I please have......." and now he's forgotten what he's asking for!

We had friends over awhile back and they were trying to teach Noah hide and seek.  A few days later he climbs up in the chair, puts both hands over his eyes and says, "1 2 3 4 6 5 1 2, Here Tum Me!"  Then he runs down the hall and "finds" brother playing in his room!

Boy Quotes #9

Noah's got it figured out when he wants something brother has... "One mitten (minute), Noah turn"

We have a duck/lemonade stand joke that Noah thinks is hilarious.  He frequently says, "glue tree, otay Mom?" because the duck is threatened with being glued to a tree if he doesn't stop asking for grapes at the lemonade stand... and so he's "threatening" to glue me to a tree.  Which he thinks is also hilarious!

"No take a dirt out Noah grass" - don't take the dirt out of Noah's grass
We got sprinklers installed this week (hooray!) and when Noah got up from his nap and saw that his beloved yard was all torn up he was distraught.  It's all done now, but there's grass seed down so they won't be able to play in the yard for a few weeks.  Time to visit some parks (wish ours was done already!).

See my pretty daffodils!

This past weekend my in-laws were here and my mother-in-law bravely accompanied me, the girls, and Noah to the mall for a couple of errands.  When we were done the girls needed to eat so we were sitting in the van.  Noah was strapped in the back and didn't want to be left out... He started telling us a story about how the "dinosaur eat white car" and then "dinosaur eat Mama house" and when we asked where we were going to go then he said "sleep Nana house".  But then the "dinosaur eat Nana house" so then we were all going to go "sleep Bama house" (Grandma's house).  There were many rounds of this sometimes interspersed with "oh no! what to do?"  It was quite hilarious and cute as he's got the storyteller's inflection down!

Boy Quotes #8

Cory calls dental floss "tooth floss".

Cory playing with marbles and picked up one with a swirl inside: Mom, this one is called Hot Fire Toast. We also have Jump Marble (which doesn't really jump), Blast Marble, Blue Shell, and Green Booger.

Noah used to say "Hah-nee" for Thank you, but lately he's switched it to "Ha-tu". Still cute, either way!

He's also picked up from brother that I am "Mom". I'm not sure I'm ready to let go of Mama, but it's pretty cute coming from this little tiny guy, "nigh nigh, Mom". :)

I'm having ham and cheese on crackers and Cory tells me, "Mom, I want an open lid sandwich too!"

Playing with a set of stacking cups that have animals on them:
Me: Noah, what does a mouse say?
Noah: Hello, Noah!

Cory: Do you remember what these are Noah? (pointing to a walrus' tusks)
Noah: looks at him
Cory: Ribazuba! (which is the scientific term and we learned this on NPR)
Noah (with much feeling): Wooooow!

Things My Toddler Has Done: Episode 4

On Halloween he got into the Sharpies and decorated his dresser, Cory's bed, the walls (where I had stenciled of course) and the bookcase.  Lucky for me there was one silver one that wasn't a Sharpie and it mostly came off, but the top of the dresser had to be sanded.... one little boy didn't get to go trick or treating.

I find him in the bathroom trying to climb into the tub and then he shows me his hands and says "num num" and it appears he's been eating the soap out of the soap dish.  (at this point I'm happy I buy very simple basic soap with no added chemicals!)

Got into my makeup and dug a big line across the blush... and then dumped all the loose powder on my white bathroom rug.

Grabbed a small tomato out of the box we have in our kitchen ripening and squeezed until it popped... and squirted himself right in the face and all over his shirt; the shirt he was supposed to wear for pictures a couple hours later.

Yesterday I put on Blue's Clues for Noah so I could take a shower (Cory was gone) and got out 10 minutes later to find him on the floor in the study stamping... which he knows he's not supposed to do.  However, he did pretty good, only getting the ink on his fingers and perhaps a bit on the carpet where he set the stamps down.  The rest of it was on the paper!

Things My Toddler Has Done: Episode 3

Knocked the wood framed mirror off the wall making a HUGE dent in the top of my lovely cedar chest.

Fell asleep under his crib during nap time...

Climbed up on the table to ring the wind chimes hanging from the light fixture

Swinging from the edges of the table... because he can

Moved a chair to climb up on so he could reach his balloon (with a slightly too short string) - I can hardly believe he figured that one out!

Climbed all the way up on top of the bookcase in their room and was trying to reach one of the glass floats we have hanging from the ceiling.  Then was crying because he couldn't get down...

Left me a mondo poopy diaper and while I was cleaning up (and letting him run loose) he peed on my computer chair.  Which is cloth covered.

Things My Toddler Has Done: Episode 2

Put old coins inside a cowrie shell... you know, the kind that has a tiny opening curved inwards?

Ran around the house with a bra that he stole out of my room...

Said his first 2 syllable word distinctively... "apple".  Yes, we eat a lot of fruit!

Be afraid, be very afraid...

Tried to talk to a picture of Grandpa I was editing on the computer.  He's used to actually talking to Grandpa on facetime and didn't understand this!

Climbed out of the shower, pooped on the rug, then came to the door to tell me about it.  For the record I think he was actually trying to make it to the potty, but still... ew!

Learned how to say "yeah" in the cutest little sing-song voice whenever we ask him a question.

Things My Toddler Has Done: Episode 1

Doesn't he just look so sweet and innocent?  Like you could snuggle him all day long?

Carriage sitting with Nana at the Cider Press last weekend

Well, he did all of the following... just in the past week:

Put pins in the air vent of my sewing machine so that it made a horrid noise when I tried to sew - thankfully I have a friend who is a sewing repair man

Scaled my plant stand and knocked a plant off the 3rd shelf - dirt everywhere

Pulled the just-filled-with-pears dehydrator off the table - Brian was not pleased since he'd done the work

Got into my sharpie collection - thankfully he only colored on his clothes and a random piece of paper

Fell off a chair and sliced his upper gum by bashing it on the edge of a table at school

Figured out how to climb in and out of his crib simply because I pushed the rocking chair too close - this one is going to be the death of me... especially at nap time...

Boy Quotes #7

These are old as you can tell by the birthday quote, but somehow they never got published. I've been lax at writing more down recently. Bummer.

"I opened my (car) door by the power of science!"

When asking why he'd changed his mind from wanting a Thomas cake for his birthday (which he'd been repeating for months) to a Nemo cake he replied, "Because I'm spectacular!"
We always call him Mr. Particular (shh, he gets that from his Mama) and this was his misrepresentation of the word.  He is definitely spectacular!

Because he didn't have to wear dress pants to school on a Monday my husband said this the other night:
"I found another pair of jeans, yes I did.
I'm happy as can be; happy as a... squid!"

Cory made up his own song...
Jellyfish, jellyfish, whale, dolphin, jellyfish!

Boy Quotes #6

Having a bath the other night Cory said he wanted to "design and fly airplanes when I grow up".  I told him he could be an aeronautical engineer.  He thought that was a good idea (sweet!).

Then he told me he wanted to take care of people when he grew up.  I asked "like a doctor or a nurse?"
"No, like a daddy".  Awwww!
Then I asked him who would come to his house and make the food and he said "the Mommy" and I said I wasn't going to come to his house and make his food so he would have to learn to cook!  He said he'd wait until he was older to learn!

***

We were driving and I told Brian I need to take my car in because it's growling when I turn right.  Cory then asked, "Is there a bear around here somewhere?"

***

On seeing my little wooden foot roller under the desk Cory wanted to know what it was for.  I said it's so Mommy can roll her feet on it when they get sore.  Cory then asked, "So is this full of sore?"

It appears my son is in the take-everything-literally-stage!

***

Calling a friend on speaker phone and having to leave a message: At the end I hung up and Cory says "Press one for more options".  Think he's heard that a few times?

***
I can hear my son singing in the other room... "Shoo fly don't bother me, Shoo fly don't bother Daddy" in his little sing song voice and it makes me smile.

Boy Quotes #5

"Tonight I'm being sillious.  That's silly and curious!"

While I'm play "eating" my son and I say he tastes good he says, "Nooooo, I taste like a waffle!  A burnt waffle!"  So apparently we know what is a bad thing to eat in our house!  Not that I ever remember burning the waffles...

Boy Quotes #4

Cory says, "I want to go play at the (local) Park!"
I say, "What do you want to do there?"
Cory says, "I want to play on the jingle bells!"

Gone to the pool with Papa when they come home we asked what he had done.  He said he was diving under water for the colored seahorses.  Nana asked where the seahorses came from and he said, "They kill the seahorses and then turn them into plastic and then they color them."  And then he squirted Papa with the seahorses.  I think I'm glad the world doesn't actually run according to a 3 year old!

And yesterday at my parents the following sequence was repeated at least a dozen times while we were canning peaches...

Cory's Dog Obedience School. from Krista on Vimeo.

Sorry for the poor quality on the video, I didn't realize until I uploaded it onto the computer that the settings were set to low resolution on the camera.
