Waking Up...

Waking Up...

This is not something that I (or anyone around me) take lightly.  I am NOT a morning person.  Or really a waking-up-from-a-nap kind of person either.

I am groggy and I don't drink coffee.  You'd think I would learn after all these years, but while I love the smell of coffee (and even spent an entire summer as a barista) I do NOT like the taste.  At least I like green tea, which helps a little bit.

I am not one of those people who you will find wide awake at 6am getting things done.  Enjoying the sunrise.  Whatever it is that gets done at 6am in your house.  I would much rather get it done at midnight.  Quite literally.  I have on occasion cleaned my bathroom or something else at that time of night!

I am very thankful that my boys are not super early risers.  It probably helps that we don't put them to bed until at least 8:30.  But they are my alarm clock except on days when I have to leave the house before 9.

You can call me crazy, but it honestly takes me so much time and effort to get myself awake that if I got up at 6 I wouldn't enjoy the sunrise anyway, I'd still be half asleep!

There are times when I think my life might be easier if I could switch my body clock a bit and get up at 7 and go to bed at 10 (yes, I need that much sleep), but at this point in my life I'm not sure it will ever happen...

Don't wake me up too early!

This is a post prompt from The Gypsy Mama.  Won't you join in?

  1. It is interesting to see how different people are with waking up routines and times, isn't it? I used to be such a morning person until I couldn't sleep well. Now, it's hard for me to wake up (even though I enjoy mornings).

Thanks for your honesty in this five minute post!

  3. Yeah not sure I could make it in the mornings without that hot beverage in my hand :) I think that I am much more like you in that I feel I operate better at night but my husband is a morning person. Hoping to find some balance between the two eventually :)

  4. I am not a morning person, but I married one. He, graciously, gives me my time when it comes to waking up! I'm with you on the sunrise thing...it's a good 15 minutes after the light switches on before I can even sit up.

  5. I am very much with you! I do NOT like waking up. I NEED a lot of sleep in order to not be groggy and grumpy. (That's what is making this time in life so very difficult! I crave sleep and feel barely functional.) Jonathan is a morning person and not a night person so I'd kind of adjusted my time a bit in sort of a compromise. (He has adjusted as well. Like I said - compromise!) But this adjustment is costing me now that I can't fall asleep until 1 or 2! Less and less sleep. Yuck!

I also like the smell of coffee (very much) but can't stand the taste. =)

  6. I'm not a morning person either! Getting up at 6 has as much appeal to me as well, having the flu. My four kids get up at 6 though so I have to tumble out of bed whether I like it or not. We've tried later bed time but it doesn't matter and then they are cranky all day :) Great 5 min post.

    Blessings,
    Mel

  7. As much as you are not the morning person, I am :) I'm one of those getting stuff done at 6:00 AM...most of the time ;) I can't imagine having any energy past 930 PM!

    I'm jealous.

Thanks for an enjoyable 5 minutes!

  8. Girl, I LOVE you! I always clean my bathrooms sometime between 10:00pm and midnight... later every once in a while... and I'd never met anyone else like me. Until now. =)

I wake up when my kids do around 7:30, and I DO drink coffee!

  9. I like the way coffee smells, too! I am not a coffee drinker, either! I must have a Diet Coke in the morning, though. We lived in Hawaii for 4 years and I totally missed out on Kona coffee since I am not a coffee drinker!
