Still...

My house is so rarely still these days.  What with two boys running around in it!

A question floating around lately has been, What do you miss most from before you had kids?  It took me awhile, but then I realized, sometimes I miss the quiet.

Don't get me wrong, I love to listen to music and be around people, but I do my best thinking in the shower. With only the white noise and no other distractions.

I'm a night owl and I love the quiet stillness of the night. The calm silence that descends over the house.  I love to be outside at night, no lights, watching the stars.

I need the still and the quiet to focus.  To be centered.

Perhaps this is why I like photography so much, especially that of nature.  It's a focus that doesn't require noise.  It's a narrowing down of your senses to just what you will see through your lens.  It's the still capture of an image. (I also don't particularly care about video)

Night time is my time.  Time to be still and refocused.

  1. Are you kidding? I am Krista, too! And I'm jealous you found the graphic with the incourage link. it's too late for me to work out recoding the html from the other one, lol.

anyway! I have trouble finding stillness too. Three kids, three LOUD kids, make it difficult to get in any time for my brain to process. I'm more of a morning person, but those kids get up so early sometimes night is the best I can do.

Be blessed today and this weekend. May you find some time to be still and refocus. :)

  3. Beautiful post ... I miss the noise now ... I have attained the still quiet of adult children, and the stillness takes getting used to again.
Thank you for this snap shot of your heart. I think I enjoy my photography (nature is my fav) for much the same reasons.
    Blessings

  4. The shower was my quiet place when my kids were little. Now when they are all home, I am right in the middle of the chaos, because when they are gone, there is too much quiet! Yet even in the midst of a quiet house, I still have to make an effort to be still!

  5. I am the same way. I have 4 kids. I love them dearly. But after bed time, it's my time. Quiet. Nothing but the clicking of my keyboard or the snapping of my shutter.

  6. I miss the stillness of the baby in my arms....wrapped up like a pea pod. Thank you for the thoughts on quiet. I agree with you about photography....it's the only way I can get things to sit still at my house!:) Have a great day!

  7. I also love nighttime but have to wait really really late as my kids are all college age. Photography is also a great still time for me as I am alone and searching for beauty

  8. I share your sentiments here - being on the West Coast, I usually take the time to do my 5 minutes on Thursday nights, in the evening after the kids are in bed.

    Lovely thoughts :).
